Society’s most precious individuals have now wrapped up this years MTV VMAs and, in case you’re unaware, you should be excited. The festivities have come and gone but, much like years past, they’ve left gossip, controversy, surprise appearances poorly kept secrets and drama in their wake, the best of which we have here. Oh, yeah, and some awards were given out too.
2013 saw massive change in the social dynamics of the event – for example, this year Taylor Swift was not the butt of all jokes, but rather the joker herself. After taking out Best Female Video (videos have genders?) for her mega hit I Knew You Were Trouble
, Swift used her acceptance speech to thank the inspiration of the song without actually naming him (it’s Harry Styles from One Direction, guys) and was then whispering “shut the fuck up” to gal pal Selena Gomez as the 1D crew prattled on before presenting Gomez with her award for Best Pop Video. $("#inner_video_4106439").mfVideo({id: "http://youtu.be/91QkA0BAsqA?"}); Daft Punk’s ‘surprise’ appearance was anything but that, after Stephen Colbert spilled the beans earlier in the month after the French duo cancelled their appearance on his show in favour of an exclusive appearance at the VMAs. Their two shiny helmets were visible from Robot Mars as they walked down the red carpet, resplendent in matching robot gloves and crisp suits, and then again when they handed Swift her award. The French robots looked fidgety and out of place just about everywhere, nervously fiddling their metallic fingers while seated in the audience – possibly because the teaser of their forthcoming music video for Lose Yourself To Dance
, which was revealed during the show, looks almost exactly the same as the teaser for Get Lucky. Watch: Daft Punk – Lose Yourself To Dance

. Watch: Miley Cyrus twerking hard or hardly twerking?

The 2013 MTV VMAs left us with at least a couple of things to look forward to, one being the upcoming Eminem album MMLP2
, which was announced during the ceremony, as well as the well overdue reunion of ‘N Sync. The Bye Bye Bye boys joined Justin Timberlake during his epic career-spanning medley performance, just before he was announced as the winner of this year’s Video Of The Year award (after taking out most of the other awards he was nominated for as well.
